ENHANCING RELATIONSHIP TO LAND, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY THROUGH SYNTHESIS OF LOCAL SYSTEMS, ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE INFORMING HOW WE UNDERSTAND AND CONSTRUCT SHELTER.

It all began in questioning… How can we minimise our collective footprint on earth through design and building practices?

Utilisation of the sun and wind play a large role as mechanisms that contribute to a healthy home, reducing reliance on non-renewable resources and systems. Applying this simply through well considered design that leans on its surrounding environment, the sun pattern, prevailing winds, landscaping and smart design.

I believe the power of well thought out space, it’s ability to nurture us to live well- interact with ourselves, one another and nature in a productive way and in strengthening healthy habits.

Natural building to me is a revival of primitive, yet tried and tested building techniques that are reliable, functional, local and low-energy use. We blend these simple principles with the needs of modern day lifestyles to design homes that look to the future in providing you with a beautiful and versatile home.

Earthen Building Design offers a design approach that reflects this passion for design, functional and beautiful spaces, for reconnecting with nature and natural systems, for re-invigorating our conscious and instinctual relationship with our surroundings, the land and its stories.

We are passionate about retrofitting existing homes, and designing renovations that can improve the usability of your home whether it be a low cost step-by-step plan to DIY, or a whole interior re-jig to adapt an existing building to your current needs.

ABOUT ME

Having worked with materials including Cob, Hemp, Strawbale, Hardwood Timber and Natural Render and spending time on natural building volunteer projects throughout Europe and Asia, I have developed a love and passion for building ecologically and empowering community to get involved and learn about constructing our own shelter. Having been involved in Earthship Building with Earthship Eco Homes here in Adelaide, I have developed the awareness of how building resilient homes can in turn build resilient and connected communities.

EBD is about building a sustainable and regenerative future through habitat, connection to nature and community. Focusing on sourcing local, utilising solar energy and thermal mass, considering naturally insulative materials, combined Passive Haus strategies, our design approach strives toward regenerative building and way of living.

The impacts of the built environment affect moods, thought and behaviours. So why wouldn’t we design spaces that enhance wellbeing, clarity, happiness and positively influence our lifestyle day to day.

In Australia, it’s important we consider native landscapes as not only a way to increase biodiversity, ecological stability, reduce our water useage and mitigate bushfire risk in rural areas, but to reconnect and honour country. We look to integrate the functions of indoor and outdoor to improve the physical environment and comfort, as well as our psychological wellbeing.
